Reviving the Republican Party

liberty-bellIn attempting to defeat an enemy, the first step is to identify them properly.  When the enemy is consistently defeating you in battle after battle, it is probably also helpful to look at their tactics and attempt to counter them.  Conservatives have been losing to their enemies for decades.  One of the reasons for this is they do not bother to try and understand them or their tactics.

Ask a conservative who his enemy is and he will probably answer with either “Democrats” or “liberals”.  Both are wrong.  The Democratic Party is not the enemy of conservatives.  It is merely a political party used by our enemy.  Some Democrats are even conservatives, although they are becoming fewer in number all the time as they are pushed out of the party by its leadership.

Conservatism is an ideology.  Its enemy is not the Democratic Party but the ideology behind the party’s agenda.  That ideology is socialism based on principles outlined in the writings of Karl Marx.  Conservative ideology, in contrast, is based on the principles on which America was founded, as expressed in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.  The two sets of principles cannot coexist in the same political system.

Science Fiction movies often feature a plot where an alien being takes over the body of a human and uses that body to wreak havoc on a community or society.  That is a perfect metaphor for the relationship between the Democratic Party and the Democratic Socialist Party.  Over the past century, the DSA has infiltrated the Democratic Party and, like the parasitic beings from outer space pictured in so many Si-Fi movies, they have taken effective control of all three branches of the American government.

Before you discount that statement as the ravings of a lunatic, I invite you to visit some socialist websites and read the Communist manifesto.  The Democrat Socialist Party has made little attempt to hide their agenda or their tactics, although they do disguise their agenda cloaking it in populism.  The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) maintains a website where they disclose the tactics they have used over the years to become the most effective political party in America.  You can find these tactics described in the Question and Answer section of their site.

The unique characteristic of the DSA is that, unlike other political parties they do not run their own candidates in political races.  Instead, they wield power within the government through surrogates in the Democratic Party.  Here’s how they explain this strategy on their website.

“The process and structure of American elections seriously hurts third party efforts. Winner-take-all elections instead of proportional representation, rigorous party qualification requirements that vary from state to state, a presidential instead of a parliamentary system, and the two-party monopoly on political power have doomed third party efforts. Maybe sometime in the future, in coalition with our allies, an alternative national party will be viable. For now, we will continue to support progressives who have a real chance at winning elections, which usually means left-wing Democrats.”

We have been pointing out that quirk in our political system for years in opposing third party candidates who invariably end up defeating their own cause.  One of the problems with the Republican Party is there are so many splinter groups, each attempting to run their own candidates in national elections that siphons votes away from the Republican candidate.  The Republican Party is the natural vehicle for conservatives to press a national agenda.  Alternative parties should acknowledge their own weakness in national politics and limit their activities to local and state elections.  Whenever they overreach by fielding national candidates they always damage their own best interest.

Another successful tactic of the DSA is their use of single-issue advocacy groups to further the socialist agenda.  They also describe this tactic for defeating capitalism on their website.

“Although capitalism will be with us for a long time, reforms we win now—raising the minimum wage, securing a national health plan, and demanding passage of right-to-strike legislation—can bring us closer to socialism. Many democratic socialists actively work in the single-issue organizations that advocate for those reforms. We are visible in the reproductive freedom movement, the fight for student aid, gay and lesbian organizations, anti-racist groups, and the labor movement.”

“…[W]e are not a separate party. Like our friends and allies in the feminist, labor, civil rights, religious, and community organizing movements, many of us have been active in the Democratic Party. We work with those movements to strengthen the party’s left wing, represented by the Congressional Progressive Caucus.”

Only one Member of Congress won his seat by running as a socialist, Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont.  Most attempt to hide, or at least, downplay their affiliation with the Democratic Socialists.   Many more are simply dupes of the DSA and promote the socialist agenda only because they agree with its principles.  Although President Obama began his political career in Illinois with the support of the DSA, it is still unclear whether he is hiding his affiliation with them or is merely another politician who has bought into their philosophy.  There is no doubt, however, that he is one hundred percent in agreement with their principles and agenda.

There is only one antidote for the socialism that has infected our political system, the U.S. Constitution.  If the Republican Party is going to be an effective force in American politics ever again, it has to shed its image as “the party of the rich” and build another one as “the party of the Constitution”.  It is up to the conservative movement to educate Republican office holders and candidates in the content and importance of the Constitution and to hold them accountable for honoring the oath to defend and protect it.

We have to stop allowing our elected officials to ignore with impunity their oath of office in the name of political expediency .  Unless we make clear to them our expectations and hold them accountable at the ballot box when they fail to fulfill them, we can look forward to a bleak future for our country.
