- "Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of patriotism, who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness, these firmest props of the duties of men and citizens." ~George Washington

THE GOOD NEWS ABOUT SPRINGFIELD
“For, more than just a day, Christmas is a state of mind. It is found throughout the year whenever faith overcomes doubt, hope conquers despair, and love triumphs over hate. It is present when men of any creed bring love and understanding to the hearts of their fellow man. The feeling is seen in the wondrous faces of children and in the hopeful eyes of the aged. It overflows the hearts of cheerful givers and the souls of the caring. And it is reflected in the brilliant colors, joyful sounds, and beauty of the winter season. Let us resolve to honor this spirit of Christmas and strive to keep it throughout the year.” President Ronald Reagan
A Merry Christmas
In the coming weeks, many of us will likely share time with friends and family to celebrate our Christmas traditions rooted in the Christian celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. This Christmas, I encourage you to give yourself an extra moment of pause to take inventory of the blessings that have been bestowed upon you by our Creator. I also encourage you to remember the brave men and women who risk their lives to forge our great nation, and those who have paid the ultimate price for Freedom in America.
Perhaps someone you know—a family member or a neighbor—maybe even yourself has been laid off and dealt with challenging circumstances as a result. In Illinois, the unemployment rate is higher than the national average, our former governor’s impeachment still looms in recent memory, and our state is hemorrhaging money from a massive budget deficit. In spite of the dark cloud overhead, I encourage you to give thanks and celebrate Our Lord’s birth with rejoicing. And I’d like to suggest there is good news in the New Year. I submit to you that there is good news about Springfield.
Good News of Great Joy
There is no news that can compare to the greatest news—and the greatest love—of all: Jesus Christ. His birth, death and resurrection assures us life abundant beyond our temporal existence. In the shadow of the gospel story, let’s remember the implications of those certain inalienable rights endowed by our Creator.
Wayward policy and reckless leadership cannot dissolve our Liberty—THIS is the good news about Springfield. You are the good news. Organize your voice, raise your voice—you can get involved—and THAT is good news. Don’t let stagnancy and the abuses of power intimidate your right to demand what’s best for the state of Illinois.
Even amidst the current state of leadership from our government officials—or lack there of—there remains good news. In spite of turmoil within our political parties or any administration, the consequences of moral and ethical ineptitude do not diminish your right to Liberty. Further, the circumstances the economy has produced and the difficulties that have emerged as a result of strangling financial situations do not have the ability to rob us of our freedom. Corruption cannot silence our voice. Indiscretion does not diminish our independence. Negligence does not negate justice for all.
A Gift of God
As Thomas Jefferson points out; Liberty can only be extinguished as a conviction in our minds. This Christmas, as you celebrate with friends and with family, give thanks for the Good News that is for all people, and remain convinced of our Liberty. Resolve to stand on the foundation of Freedom and exercise your right to govern our state in a way that serves its people.
Celebrate the reason for the season and give thanks for your right to demand government of, by and for the people. Join the movement to put an end to the “Chicago Way”.
May you have a blessed and Merry Christmas!
Conservative Candidate for Governor
The Senate Passed the 2,000 page healthcare bill at one a.m. Sunday morning; this in spite of the overwhelming opposition of voters. Obviously, we no longer have a representative government. The rallying cry for the patriots in 1775 was “no taxation without representation”. This bill will add millions of dollars in new taxation without “representation“. It is time for today’s patriots to ban together and launch a new revolution. We have the weapon, and we have the ammunition.
Our weapon is the Constitution and our ammunition is the vote. It is time American citizens stop participating in the corruption that has permeated every facet of our political system. When Senators like Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) or Mary Landrieu (D-La.) are bought off with gratuitous federal spending in their states in order to secure votes, it cannot be called anything else but corruption. At the same time we voters can no longer ignore our own participation in this corruption by consistently, in election after election, voting for the Congressman or Senator who “brings home the bacon”. We are indeed selling our heritage for bowls of porridge. It is time to stop the wholesale destruction of our Constitution and way of life.
That can only be done by “we the people“. It should be obvious by now that we cannot depend on our elected officials and we cannot depend on the Supreme Court to protect the Constitution. Its only real defenders are the patriotic voters of America. The only way to succeed in returning to a constitutional government is to vote out of office elected officials who do not honor their oath of office to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and Domestic” and replace them with someone who will.
A month ago, we launched a new grassroots organization to do just that, the Illinois Conservative Action Network (ICAN). ICAN differs from other groups in that its focus is directed solely to reestablishing the Constitution to its rightful place as the final authority in determining how far the government can go in directing our lives and infringing on our liberty. We are not tax exempt therefore; we can openly target individual elected officials for defeat, ridding our government of those who habitually and consistently violate their oath of office. At the same time we can openly campaign for candidates who will honor their oath. We are not a third party; therefore, we can participate in the primary elections of major parties where the real change must take place. By the time the general election comes around it is often too late to make much difference.
We and our membership, supports most conservative grassroot organizations like those involved in the fiscally conservative Tea Party Movement, and the socially conservative right-to-life organizations, we also support many of the 501(c)(3) organizations like the Heritage Foundation—our favorite—, Open Secrets and others. Without government or party restrictions, our membership can participate in election campaigns for or against any candidate from any party. We seek to fill an important nitch that has been sorely neglected for too long.
We presently view our immediate tasks as (1) helping conservatives take back the Republican Party that has historically been their home, (2) educating citizens and elected officials on the requirements of the Constitution and our founding principles. (3) Identifying incumbents who refuse to honor their oath of office and work to defeat them at the polls.
It is our firm belief that when we return the Constitution to its rightful place in government, we will have solved most of the fiscal and social problems that plague us today. We are new and we are growing. You can do your part by adding your name to our membership role. Elected officials only respect numbers. The more rapidly our membership grows the quicker we can begin to make a difference.
We are currently developing an on-line, interactive tutorial to help interested citizens better understand the requirements of the Constitution and our founding principles. Hopefully we can announce its going on line within the next week. We are also working on other tools to help our members take action to stop our headlong rush into socialism and return our country to a constitutional republic.

I pride myself on being able to spot deceptive advertising and misleading sales gimmicks. So you can imagine my surprise when I realized that I had been had by a clever left wing book peddler.
I was in a Border’s Book store doing some Christmas shopping on Saturday. I picked up another copy of Mark Levin’s “Liberty and Tyranny” and a copy of Michelle Malkin’s latest book “Culture of Corruption“. As I was on my way to check-out another book caught my eye. The title of the book was “Going Rogue”, or so I thought. Going Rogue happened to be a book I wanted for myself.
Picking it up—it was a paperback—I turned it over and checked the price. Only $15.95. Such a deal, I could not refuse. On Sunday, while taking a break from my computer, I decided to begin reading the book. Without reading the Table of Contents, I turned to the Introduction by Richard Kim and Betsy Reed. Nothing unusual here; authors often have someone else write the Introduction. The intro started with
“On the evening of November 4, 2008, progressives were in an ebullient mood. After eight long years of Republican rule, Barack Obama has been elected president. Accompanying our shouts of joy were audible sighs of relief. The prospect of a John McCain presidency had filled us with dread. But to imagine Sarah Palin–a conservative Christian with a penchant for folksy warmongering who flaunted her ignorance as a virtue—separated from the Oval Office only by a 72-year-old cancer survivor…that was beyond terrifying”.
My first reaction was, “How about that, Sarah picked a former left winger to write her Introduction. Good for her”. I fully expected the tone to change and I would discover that the writer had experienced an epiphany and was now suffering from buyer’s remorse. After reading about ten pages with no changes, I took a closer look at what I had bought. The Table of Contents revealed that the book was actually written by an assortment of left wing wannabes including such luminaries as Robert Reich, Rick Pearlstein and Jim Hightower.
Turning back to the cover, I noticed for the first time that the title was “Going Rouge” not “Going Rogue”. The sub-title was “An American Nightmare” not “An American Life”. Not having seen a copy of Sarah’s book before, I suppose I could be excused for not noticing the difference—See examples above. But then again, I guess I just have to admit, as my wife laughingly reminds me, I simply got took. After a life time of fielding phone calls from solicitors offering to reduce my credit card interest, informing me that I had just won a free trip to some exotic locale, and the thousands of “free trial” offers I have turned down over the years, I still got snookered. I am sure there is a lesson in there somewhere. When I figure it out I will be sure to share it with you.
Here is another example of a congressional leader that votes every day on issues that affect the lives of us all who does not have a clue as to the requirements and limitations of the Constitution. Thanks, CNS News

Governor Pat Quinn (D-IL) and President Obama continue to make plans to house prisoners from the federal prison at Guantanamo Bay, at a prison located in Thompson, Illinois. According to MSNBC, President Obama has ordered the government to purchase the Illinois prison facility located about 150 miles west of Chicago.
Quinn and Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) held a press conference in Chicago to boost support for the plan. In an attempt to allay concerns about security at the prison Quinn assured those gathered that “We’re here today to let the people know we’re not going to let the fear mongers carry the day, we’re going to do things right, the Illinois way.”
That’s what citizens should be worried about. In the past, the “Illinois way” has not proven to be always in the best interest of either the citizens of Illinois or the country. Many of the promises made by the politicians in their eagerness to sell the plan to the people contain less logic than Washington’s plan to spend our way out of debt, or to create jobs by imposing more taxes on businesses.
The 1600 bed prison at Thompson currently houses about 200 minimum security prisoners. When it becomes a federal facility, these state prisoners will need to be transferred to another location. Less than one hundred terrorist prisoners will be transferred from GITMO to Illinois. Somehow, this is supposed to result in the addition of 3,000 jobs in the community.
Officials are going out of their way to assure citizens of the improbability of anyone escaping from the maximum security prison, especially after the Feds add millions of dollars in additional security to that already in place at the relatively new facility. The concern of those who take the time to think the question through, however, is not that prisoners will escape, but rather that lone wolf Jihadists will commit terrorist acts in retaliation or in an attempt to intimidate public officials.
Not all Illinois politicians are in favor of the transfer. Representative Donald Manzullo (R-IL) the Congressman representing the district where the prison would be located is adamantly opposed to the plan, in spite of the promised additional jobs.
Quinn is doing an “end run” around the state legislature in selling the prison to the Feds. According to Jack Levin, a top aide to the Governor, Quinn does not need to get authorization from the state legislature in order to sell the property. Therein lays the problem. President Obama does not have the Constitutional authority to buy the property without an appropriation for the purpose by Congress and Quinn does not have the authority to sell it without the approval of the state legislature.
Article I, Section 9 of the Constitution says, “No Money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law;” The Constitution authorizes Congress to purchase property from the states if the proper appropriation has been made, but only with the approval of the state legislature. Article I, Section 8, clause 18 clearly requires the consent of the state legislatures involved when purchasing property from a state.
“Congress shall have the power to…exercise like Authority over all Places purchased by the Consent of the Legislature of the State in which the Same shall be, for the Erection of Forts, Magazines, Arsenals, dock-Yards, and other needful Buildings;”
